We are committed to providing a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of technology or ability.
We are actively working to increase the accessibility and usability of our website. Standards continuously grow and change. The standards and guidelines we follow are measured against tools like Google's Lighthouse metric for accessibility, axe DevTools, WCAG II, and a variety of online accessibility checkers.
What qualifies as "good code" changes all the time, as the Web changes. This is why it's a good idea to revamp your website every 3-5 years, since behind the scenes everything has a shelf life.
Why bother?
A well-coded website is not just more accessible. Google's Lighthouse metric covers four areas:
- Performance - this always varies as it takes into account Web speed at the moment, but good code improves this
- Accessibility
- Best Practices - this is where good code comes into play
- SEO - this tends to be the single focus for marketing, but the others are just as important because first, we are judged by robots, and only if we pass the test, are we judged by people. ;-)
This website endeavours to conform to level Double-A of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities. Conformance with these guidelines will help make the web more user friendly for all people. This site has been built using code compliant with W3C standards for HTML and CSS. The site displays correctly in current browsers and using standards compliant HTML/CSS code means any future browsers will also display it correctly.
Nobody's Perfect
Standards change, but we change with the standards, and continually seek out solutions that will bring all areas of the site up to the same level of overall web accessibility. In the meantime should you experience any difficulty in accessing our website, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
